This week was packed with tons of epic rock records. You might notice that I use the term “modern” to describe many of the releases. I use “modern” because I’m not sure how else to describe the type of hard rock that comes out nowadays. To explain, much of modern hard rock pulls from a variety of genres such as the electronic production and catchiness of pop and the breakdowns of hardcore to name just a couple of facets. It’s definitely not the same hard rock of the 70s, 80s, or 90s, yet it’s not heavy enough to be what I would consider metal. It’s a weird conglomeration of so many things yet it’s still unmistakably rock.
With that out of the way, I have narrowed down my favorite 5 albums released between July 16-22 and have included some honorable mentions that are also worth a listen. I don’t recommend anything that I think isn’t worth your time.
